A few more answers for the enquiring mind.

Does AWA in Florence take on volunteer restorers? No. AWA’s restorers are chosen by the owner of the works, among those working for Tuscany’s state and civic museums. When available, AWA does recommend our volunteers for a beginners hands-on ‘restoration on paper’ course, pictured above, organized by our Florence partner Atelier degli Artigianelli. [Course dates and details for 2020 have not yet been announced].

Does AWA provide work or student visas? No. Our volunteer research program falls within the three-month period allotted for tourist visas, which each participant acquires independently. At present, AWA cannot provide or facilitate the attainment of work or study visas.

Does AWA compensate volunteers? No. AWA does not provide air-fare, in-country travel expenses, housing or monetary compensation for volunteers.

What if I want to extend my research stay? Feasibility of program extension will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis, and depend on the candidate’s proven commitment and the availability of Mentors or staff involved.

Can I participate in the research program if I am not in Florence? Participating from afar is possible, but the time commitment required of each volunteer does not vary for off-site participants. In this case, Volunteers and Mentors can communicate via the e-method of their choice. Please note, that during the application process, selection preference will be given to on-site candidates.
