Together, AWA and The Savoy raise awareness on art by women. Brainchild of AWA's cultural partnership with the Savoy Hotel in Florence, 'Women in the Renaissance'. offers a unique look at the 'world of women' from the Renaissance and beyond. The Pitti Palace's purchase by Grand Duchess Eleonora de Toledo in 1560 was an exception during her time and the palace still offers visitors Florence's most intriguing glimpses of 'Renaissance women'—in their role as leaders, artists, entrepreneurs and idealized symbols of virtue and power. The tour shines a spotlight on the art of Artemisia Gentileschi whose successful Florentine sojourn followed her tortuous rape trial and it will focus on the political savvy of Grand Duchess Vittoria della Rovere who used art as a way to secure lasting prestige. Offered exclusively to guests of the Savoy Hotel, it provides a varied view of how women deeply inspired the Renaissance imagination—as agents of the Fates, beacons of faith and even promoters of luxury and fashion. Works by Michelangelo, Raphael and Titian lead the way on this journey through the 'Feminine Universe'. A traipse through Pitti's Costume Gallery and a glimpse at the Grand Dukes' Treasure in silver, ivory, amber and ceramics offers a sumptuous view of the courtly life of Pitti's noblewomen.

Please note: This tour is offered exclusively through the Savoy Hotel - The Rocco Forte Hotel in Florence.
Proceeds support the restoration of art by women.
