Is the study of sacred art the ”newest” trend when it comes to uncovering art by women? The Courtauld Institute of Art in London compared modern-day scholarly studies about the art of religious women from approximately 1250 to 1550 at the international conference ”Female Monasticism and the Arts across Europe” (March 2015). Dr. Fausta Navarro, Vice Director of the Palatine Gallery in Florence presented the lecture: Orate pro Pictora’ (Pray for the paintress), Suor Plautilla Nelli as a professional nun painter in Florence mid-XVI century. This research was, in part, carried out during AWA’s restoration of several recently discovered works by Nelli.
