A trek up to the Tuscan hills is the best way to discover artists Elisabeth Chaplin and Lola Costa. Villa Il Palmerino partners with AWA, Pitti’s Gallery of Modern Art and the Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze for the exhibition ”Private Mythologies” featuring works by Elisabeth Chaplin and Lola Costa. (Spring 2014). Brought together for the first time at the villa, these two artists share ex-pat flair and common themes. The villa, which was Costa’s home from the 1930s until her death in 2004, is the perfect backdrop for the keynote event in the ‘Women Painters in Tuscany’ series. The exhibition catalog Chaplin and Costa: Rediscovering Expat Women Painters in Tuscany includes essays by Jane Fortune, AWA’s founder, Giovanna Giusti, Director of the Uffizi’s Twentieth-century Department and Simonella Condemi, Director of Pitti’s Gallery of Modern Art.
