A new catalog for ‘The Oltrarno Gaze’

Autumn has always been a season for ‘book launching’ at AWA, and this year is no acception. We welcome the publication of a new exhibition catalogue: Victoria Slichter. The Oltrarno Gaze, presented to the art-loving public on September 17, 2020, at the show’s opening at Il Palmerino. ‘We have decided to shine a light on the contemporary world,’ explains Il Palmerino’s President Federica Parretti, in the catalog’s introduction, ‘because, at this particular moment, we feel a strong calling to look at Florence as more than just a treasure trove of Renaissance artistic heritage. Instead, we would like to see it as a modern city as well, whose identity is being rethought, in the face of transformative events. This is why we welcome the portraits in Victoria Slichter’s exhibition as one would welcome good friends.” The catalog by Margaret MacKinnon and Linda Falcone spotlights the district on the ‘Other side of the River’ with its historic and present-day vicissitudes and reflects on the ‘faces’ that represent its fighting spirit.
