Longhi’s comments colored Pincherle’s debut. Art critic Roberto Longhi (1890-1970) lauded Pincherle’s works at her first major show as ‘plasticine soaked in violent color’ and added, ‘I like the girl.’ His delight and support of her work helped propel her into the limelight. In 1949, Longhi moved to Florence to chair the Art History department at the University of Florence. He is best known for his work to re-evaluate Piero della Francesca and Caravaggio which was instrumental in launching both of these artists onto the international scene. Longhi’s portrait, restored by AWA in 2016 is part of the Gabinetto G.P. Vieusseux collection in Florence.
