What does Pincherle’s portrait series say about the artist? Adriana Pincherle’s Self-portrait from the 1960s from the Gabinetto G.P. Vieusseux in Florence was restored by AWA in 2018. Pincherle was described as a ‘reserved and ironic woman, a shy and kind spirit’ by one of her admirers. This painting embodies that reserve yet also expresses a steely composure and self-assuredness, at once beautiful and a force to be reckoned with. She is considered the last heir to the Roman School, an off-shoot of the Expressionistic movement. Her style was in direct opposition to the Classicism school supported by the Fascist regime. The painting was exhibited in 2018 at the exhibition ‘Adriana Pincherle: Colors of an Artist’, as part of the Women Artists of the 1900s calendar at Palazzo Palazzo Panciatichi.
