Edita Broglio. A tiny work, a major artistic movement. Oranges, Edita Broglio’s wistful portrait, became ‘poster child for the 3-month exhibition ”Beyond Borders” hosted at Florence’s Twentieth Century Museum in Piazza Santa Maria Novella to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Arno’s flooding (2016). Restored prior exhibition, it is now in storage in the Florence Civic Museums Collection. The painting was originally presented on February 5, 1967, just three months after the flood. Curator Carlo Ludovico Ragghianti presented 192 works in that show called "Artists for Florence" at Palazzo Vecchio. Shaping a museum “worthy of Florence” and coaxing the city into modern times was Ragghianti appeal, and Edita Broglio gifted Oranges to support his dreams of founding a contemporary art museum that would rival the Uffizi. Restored by AWA in 2016.
