Mrs. Della Ragione gets TV ready

‘Monuments Women’ film crew captures Raphael Mafai restoration for the small screen. The inauguration of AWA’s conservation of Antonietta Rafael Mafai’s portrait of Mrs. della Ragione was broadcast as part of the 2017 television series entitled, ‘We are culture: Monuments Women’ which featured ‘a day in the life of AWA in Florence and Tuscany’. For four days, film director Giuseppe Carrieri and crew followed AWA in and out of Florence museums, from the deposits to the museum spotlight. They were able to capture this restoration’s final phase, before zeroing in on the sculpture’s museum debut. The program aired Italy-wide on La Effe, Feltrinelli TV and later made a ‘special appearance’ at the Women’s International Cinema Festival at Florence’s Teatro della Compagnia. It was the festival’s 30th edition… a huge honor for AWA and its newest ‘forgotten’ artwork, now returned to the public.
