2004 Nelli Awardee. San Marco Museum Director Magnolia Scudieri holds a degree in Medieval and Modern History. She began her career with the Ministry of Cultural Heritage in 1980, working within the Superintendent’s Office for the Artistic and Historical Patrimony of Florence and Pistoia. As Director of Florence’s San Marco Museum she has led several important restoration projects including the restoration of works by Beato Angelico and Suor Plautilla Nelli’s Lamentation with Saints. She also oversaw the restoration of the museum’s Cloister of Sant’Antonino. Additionally, Dr. Scudieri has overseen the restoration of frescos at the Duomo’s Cupola (Santa Maria del Fiore). Her publications include The Frescos of Angelico at San Marco, Around the David: the Great Works of Michelangelo’s Century and A Church, a People, a Painting.
