Ferroni’s project spotlights the importance of art in daily life
Though we are used to ‘enshrining’ art in museums, it is also exciting to support the concept that makes Florence truly great: art is everywhere. It is not ‘locked up’ and put behind glass – it is a part of daily life, just like good health ought to be. San Giovanni di Dio’s interior and exterior have been approved for a 14-million euro renovation, as the former hospital is to become the headquarters of The Council of a Right to Health, and the Welfare and Sport Offices of the Tuscan Region, as well as a center for physicians. The historic main entrance, whose renovation will be complete by 2020, leads directly to Ferroni’s paintings—which will have daily visibility for hundreds of Florentines. The whole complex will be restored by 2022. The ‘art of healing’ is literal in Ferroni’s case! AWA heals paintings whilst remembering the essential historical and social value of good health and healing. Project supporters: AWA, Robert Lehman Foundation, FSU in Florence, Art Angels.
