'Artists Answer Back' is a call for original art in response to 'Women Artists. Florence, 1900 – 1950', our Autumn 2018 show in Florence. It is a chance for modern-day artists to be inspired by the restoration and exhibition of art by historic women. Its aim is to create an 'art dialog' between past and present. No restoration is truly complete until today's creative personalities react to the artworks being rescued or rediscovered.

Who can participate?
Visual artists, designers, and art students working in all mediums, including the applied arts, are invited to submit their work. Painting, sculpture, metal work, mixed-medium works, photography, art on paper and… even jewellery, fashion and craftsmanship are welcome art forms.

How does it work?

Participating artists visit the show 'Women Artists. Florence, 1900 to 1950' at Fondazione CR Firenze at Via Bufalini 6 from September 22 to November 18. No registration fees apply and admission to the show is free. They select one work on display to 'respond to' by generating a new work of art. Artists register to participate and upload a photograph of their work here.

What are the 'perks' of participating?

'Artists Answer Back' is not a contest, it's a conversation. Submitted art will be featured on AWA's website in the 'Artists Answer Back' on-line gallery. Participants who invite another fellow artist to partake in 'Artists Answer Back' will be invited to share a link to their own website. A selection of entries will receive additional exposure on-line in The Florentine, Tuscany's English-language newspaper and Inside AWA, our 'insiders' publication.

Participating artists will be invited to enjoy the digital rendition of artwork created during the 'Artists Answer Back' Aperitivo at Il Palmerino, the Florentine country house and cultural center for twentieth-century art and literature. (October 25, 2018, 6pm. Il Palmerino, via il Palmerino 6. Aperitivo: 10 euro). Evening will include a special raffle for participants featuring the following AWA 'perks':

- Exhibition catalog: Women Artists. Florence, 1900 – 1950
- Sterling silver AWA pendant
- Invisible, the perfume
