A Present for the Pitti

Brandeis is thought to have frequented the Uffizi as a copy artist during her 17 years in town. The exactitude with which she paints The Niobe Room at the Uffizi is considered proof of this supposition. Indeed, the artist depicts the room ‘faithfully‘ as it was during her time (according to a photograph now stored in Florence’s Civic Archives). The painting mentioned above was one of four works the artist gifted to Pitti’s gallery of Modern Art in her will, along with the money to purchase adequate frames.
